East Park Tavern in Northern Michigan closed its kitchen early during one of the busiest nights of the year because out-of-towners were being disrespectful to staff. This happened during the Charlevoix’s 2022; Venetian Festival is a week filled with music, entertainment, parades, and children’s activities the third week in July. It’s estimated that 100,000 people pass through the city during the eight-day celebration.
Shortly after a server had been confronted with mistreatment from impolite customers, Moore and her team agreed to close its kitchen early. There, she put up a massive square-shaped notice that read Due to the mistreatment of our servers the kitchen area is closed.
Here’s what Larah Moore, general manager of East Park Tavern on Bridge Street posted on Facebook:
“I’ve worked in downtown Charlevoix most of my adult life during Venetian. It’s usually great, busy, but fun and worthwhile.
I’m so incredibly disappointed and embarrassed by the Fudgies we have this year. My staff took a BEATING all week. Last night was our last straw. Too many rude comments. Too many arrogant individuals acting like they can throw money at us to get their way. Too many cocky jerks.
No one gets to treat my staff like trash. They are the absolute shining stars in my life and I love and appreciate the hell out of the few of them that I am lucky enough to have. If you push your servers, watch them start to push back. We are here to ensure great food, drinks, and quality of your time spent with us. We are not here to be abused. We will not tolerate that anymore. ”
The Charlevoix Venetian Festival brings people together! Established in 1931, this jubilant tradition started with a simple candle-lit boat parade. Today, it is an 8-day festival that showcases big-name concerts, fireworks, a carnival, street and boat parades, athletic events, beachfront activities, street vendors, buskers and much more. The goal of the festival is to build community and connection, create lasting memories and bring people together. That’s why you won’t pay for a concert ticket or need a special pass. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate, whether a guest, a volunteer or a sponsor!
